My name is Stephen McCann FInstLM FIDE FARMI CMIOSH MIIRSM.
I am a qualified Demolition Engineer with the Institute of Demolition Engineers (FIDE), Chartered Occupational Health and Safety practitioner with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), a member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (MIIRSM), a fellow member of the Asbestos Removal Management Institute (ARMI), and a fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management with many other qualifications.
I have worked in the Asbestos Removal and Demolition for my entire working life as a Director of the Forth Demolition Ltd, during which I developed my personal expertise by undergoing various training courses, writing papers on demolition and safety issues and delivering presentations around the country for groups such as Chartered Association of Building Engineers; Institution of Occupational Safety and Health; Institute of Structural Engineers; Institute of Demolition Engineers; National Federation of Demolition Contractors; Scottish Construction Safety Group; Scottish House Builders Forum; and many others.
In 2013, I set up an independent consultancy, Perses Ltd to provide consultancy services and training courses to the high risk, including temporary works, safety awareness for construction, occupational health and safety, fire assessments, vocational qualifications, roofing and working at height, rock bursting and explosives, and specialist demolition and asbestos removal sectors.
In recent times our company has evolved to into providing health and safety advice and training courses to all sectors including hospitality and hotelier, jewellery and goldsmiths, exhibitions and tourism, and many more.
As specialist consultant I have had the privilege to be part of the team authoring industry guidance notes for the National Federation of Demolition Contractors on:
(i) Construction (Design and Management) Regulation 2015;
(ii) Crisis Management;
(iii) Temporary Works – Hoardings;
(iv) Demolition and Refurbishment: Resource Protocol;
(v) Deconstruction of Tower Blocks by Piecemeal; and
(vi) Asbestos in Soils.
I have authored/co-authored many National Demolition Training Group courses including: Demolition Manager; and Demolition Director, among others. Winner (joint) of the World Demolition Award 2015 Collaboration Award (for my work while sub-contracted to C&D Consultancy).
I am on the HSE’s list of Occupational Safety & Health Consultant Register (O.S.H.C.R) as a Registered Consultant.
